The government has started the Kusum Yojana Scheme for farmers. Under PM Kusum Scheme, the farmers’ diesel-powered irrigation machines will be converted into solar-powered machines, the farmers will get solar power plants, i.e. provision of solar panels. The government has launched the Kusum Solar Pump Distribution Scheme, under which solar energy power pumps will be distributed to people from the farming class.
The government’s main goal in implementing the Kusum scheme is to power 30 million diesel-powered pumps in the country with solar energy by 2022, thereby reducing the consumption of diesel and electricity and increasing the use of solar energy. What is PM Kusum Scheme?
In India, farming is a monsoon gamble. There are many semi-arid or arid regions in India. Crop irrigation in these areas is dependent on canals, wells, and ponds. And all of these resources are dependent on rain. In this case, tube-wells powered by a diesel engine or electricity are the most dependable source of irrigation.
However, as a result of this, farmers must spend more money on diesel, and if they irrigate their crops with tube wells powered by electricity, they must rely on electricity. To address this issue, the central government announced the PM Kusum Scheme. Under this scheme, farmers can install a solar panel and a solar-powered pump on their property. This will meet their electricity requirements.
They can also use the electricity generated by it for agricultural purposes. If they generate more electricity than they need, they can sell it to discom companies and earn extra money. The government provides a grant of 90% for solar panels, with farmers contributing the remaining 10%.

Main Purpose to Start PM Kusum Scheme 2022
Agriculture in India is always dependent on rain. It’s fine if the rain gods are pleased. But if not, the crops will be destroyed. The Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana was established to address this issue. So that farmers can use solar pumps to irrigate their crops. Farmers can use solar energy for agricultural purposes while also selling electricity to discoms and earning extra money. Goal of the PM Kusum Scheme
The goal is to power 3 crore tubewells with solar energy, which is powered by a diesel engine or electricity. The government will provide 17.5 lakh solar pump sets to farmers in areas where the power grid does not exist. Farmers in areas where power grids are available will receive 10 lakh solar pump sets. This will necessitate the expenditure of 1.40 lakh crores. The central government will be responsible for 48 thousand crore rupees of these. The state governments will be responsible for the exact same amount. Farmers are only required to contribute 10% of the total cost, with the remainder covered by bank loans.

Three Components of PM-KUSUM Yojana
Following are the three components of PM-KUSUM Yojana
- Component A
- Workers will set up 10,000 MW of decentralized renewable energy power plants on barren land under this scheme.
- Farmers, cooperatives, farmer groups, panchayats, Water User Associations (WUA), and Farmer Producer Organizations will set up these grids (FPO)
- Power projects will be developed within a 5-kilometer radius of the substation.
- Component B
- Farmers will be assisted under this scheme to install stand-alone solar agriculture pumps worth Rs. 17.50 lakh.
- The pumps will have a capacity of up to 7.5 HP and will be used to replace existing diesel agriculture pumps.
- The capacity can be greater than 7.5 HP, but financial assistance will only be provided up to 7.5 HP.
- Component C
- This scheme aims to solarize 10 lakh grid-connected agriculture pumps, and individual farmers will be assisted in solarizing pumps that are already connected to the grid.
- Extra solar energy will be sold to Distribution Companies of India (DISCOMs) at a predetermined price.
- Farmers’ irrigation needs will be met using solar power generated.
Central Financial Assistance (CFA) or State Government Support
- Component A
MNRE will provide Procurement Based Incentive (PBI) to Distribution Companies of India for the first five years to purchase power from farmers or developers at 40 paise/kWh or Rs. 6.60 lakh/MW/year, whichever is less (DISCOMs).
- Components B & C:
Finance Assistance of 30% of the benchmark cost or 30% of the tender cost, whichever is lower State Government Subsidy of 30%
The farmer will keep the remaining 40%.
Farmers in J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, North Eastern States, Sikkim, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands receive 50% Central Finance Assistance, 30% State Government Subsidy, and the remaining 20% is paid by the farmer.

Things to be Implemented
- The first step will be to implement a pilot run of Components A and C with capacities of 1000 MW and 1 lakh pumps.
- Following the successful pilot run of Components A and C, these components will be used for increased capacity and pumps.
- Capacity has been sanctioned to various State Government Agencies based on received demand. Under Components A and C, tender or allocation shall be performed by the concerned agency nominated by the State Governments for respective components.
Application Process for PM Kusum Scheme
In order to register or apply for the PM KUSUM Yojana, first of all, you need to go to the official website of the KUSUM Yojana i.e https://mnre.gov.in/. After completing the online application form, you must provide the required information, such as an Aadhaar card, land documents, including KhasraKhatauni, a declaration form, a bank account passbook, and so on. You will be registered once the application form and supporting documents have been approved.
