Every year, the deadline for filing income tax returns is July 31. You will constantly come across two-income tax-related forms during this return filing season: Form 16 and Form 26AS. This article explains how to see and download Form 26AS in detail.

A certificate provided by an employer for tax deducted at source from your salary and lodged with the authorities is known as Form 16. Form 26AS is an annual credit statement that displays all taxes received by the Income Tax Department for your PAN for the previous fiscal year.

What is the purpose of Form 26AS?

One of the most critical documents to have when submitting an income tax return is Form 26AS. It’s an annual consolidated tax credit statement that lists all taxes received by the IT Department for your PAN during the financial year.

It lists all of the taxes that have been deducted from your PAN number from various sources. As a result, before completing your income tax return, you should always review and download Form 26AS for any anomalies.

View and Download Form 26AS

You have two options for viewing and downloading it:

  • Go to the TRACES website and download Form 26AS.
  • Authorized banks’ Net Banking services can be used to view and download Form 26AS.

To access and download it from the TRACES website, follow the steps outlined below.

1st step

Go to the e-filing website of the Income Tax Department (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home). Use your User ID, Password, and Captcha to log in. If you are not already a registered user, you must first register on the e-filing website.

You must fill out your PAN number, name, and date of birth, as well as choose a password, in order to register. After you’ve completed the registration process, use your user ID and password to log in to the e-filing portal. Please keep in mind that your user ID will be your PAN number.

2nd Step

Once you’ve logged in, go to the main menu and select “My Account,” then “View Form 26AS (Tax Credit)” from the drop-down menu.

A “Disclaimer” can be found here. After reading, click the “Confirm” button. You will now be directed to the TRACES website.

4th step

You’ve arrived at the TRACES website. To agree to the use and acceptance of Form 16 / 16A generated from TRACES, check the box below. Select the box and then click the “Proceed” button.

On the next screen, click the option that says “View Tax Credit (Form 26AS).”

Step 6:

From the drop-down option, choose the “Assessment Year” for which you want to view/download your tax credit. From the drop-down menu, choose a file format for the “View As” option. If you wish to view it online, select HTML as the file format and go to the “View/Download” option. If you want to download form 26AS as a PDF, open it in HTML and then click the “Export as PDF” button.

Step 7:

The password to open the PDF/text file is your PAN card’s Date of Birth / Date of Incorporation. To open the file, type the date in the format DDMMYYYY.

View and Download Form 26AS via Net Banking facility of Authorized Banks

Form 26AS can be downloaded and viewed via an authorized bank’s Net Banking service.

You can also browse and download the Form using authorized banks’ Net Banking services. This service is available to PAN holders who have a net banking account with any authorized bank.

If your PAN number is linked to your bank account, you can use this service to view and download Income Tax Form 26AS. This service is provided at no cost to you. The following banks are authorized to offer this service.

To use your bank’s internet banking website to download and see Form 26AS, follow the steps outlined below.

  • Step 1: Go to http://contents.tdscpc.gov.in/en/netbanking.html and fill out the form.
  • Step 2: Navigate to the website of the bank with whom you have internet banking. It’s also worth noting that your PAN has been accurately mapped.
  • 3rd step: When you click on the relevant bank link, a notice will display prompting you to visit the bank’s website.
  • Step 4: Use your Net Banking login credentials to log in to the Bank’s website.
  • Step 5: To get the information, click on “Tax Credit Statement.”

How can I get a copy of Form 26AS without logging in?

Please click on register to create an account if you do not already have one.
Enter your User ID (PAN, AADHAR, or OTHER USER ID).
To access your form 26AS, click confirm to be redirected to the TDS-CPC (Traces) website.

What is the purpose of Form 26A?

The certificate must be in the specified Form 26A, according to this rule. In addition, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued Notification No. 11/2016, which specifies the procedure for filing Form 26A electronically for short/non-deduction of tax at source.
